Review: Crescent Rendr sketch book

September 1, 2017 | by Nadine Mnemoi

Last year, I bought two differentCrescent Rendr sketch books at Blick.  And I decide to do a little review.

Brand: Crescent Rendr sketch book, No Show Thru Paper

Size:  21,5 cm x 27,9 cm – 8  1/2″ x 11″

Quality: Acid- ligning free

Weigh: 180gsm 110lb

The markers used: Copics, Promarkers, Prismacolours, Blick, Db-twin.

Is really the Crescent Rendr no show through paper sketchbook?

Yes, it is!!!  The satisfaction to colour the page, flip over and see the pages completely pristine is AWESOME! If you are an alcohol marker user, you know how annoying it is, to see the markers bleeding through the page, and ruining the following ones. Well it end now with Crescent Rendr! And yes,  you can use both side.Which mean you can draw double pages illustration.

Doesn’t show through. The back is perfect!

Apparently, you can also use spray, pastel, paint on it. I tried with gilding flakes and liquid gold and the result is remarkable.

On the downside:

  • It’s not a normal white colour and there must be some chemical product there. Therefore, the colours of the markers are somehow slightly different and darker. (Tip: A colour chart page could be a good idea!)
  • Weirdly enough, the pages of the drawing pad doesn’t looks as uniform as the sketchbook. It’s like some oily tiny patches in the paper.
  • It’s not odourless. The Drawing pad has a stronger smell than the Sketchbook.

Conclusion: It’s a keeper!

If you don’t mind the “greyish” white colour, I recommend the Sketchbook. It’s really foolproof .I will buy more of it. May not be the case of the drawing pad. Although the result is the same, no show through. The paper appearance put me a bit off, just a question personal taste.
